Alexander is the Sam Nunn Professor of Law at Emory University School of Law.\u0026nbsp; He has served as co-founder and General Counsel of the\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003ECenter for Community Progress\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;(2009-2011), Interim Dean of the Emory Law School (2005-2006), and as Visiting Fellow at the Joint Center for Housing Studies, Harvard University (2007).\u0026nbsp; His courses include Property, Real Estate Finance, State and Local Government Law, Law and Theology, and Federal Housing Policies.\u0026nbsp; The author of over fifty publications in the fields of real estate finance, law and theology, and community development, his recent publications include\u0026nbsp;Land Banks and Land Banking\u0026nbsp;(2011);Georgia Real Estate Finance \u0026amp; and\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EInherent Tensions Between Home Rule and Regional Planning\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;(2000).\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EFounder of Emory University\u0027s Law and Religion Program in 1982, Professor Alexander\u0027s work in recent years has focused on community development and affordable housing.\u0026nbsp; From 1993 to 1996, he served as a Fellow of the Carter Center of Emory University, specializing in neighborhood redevelopment activities and low-income housing in conjunction with The Atlanta Project.\u0026nbsp; He served as a Commissioner of the State Housing Trust Fund for the Homeless from 1994-98, and served as an advisor to the residents of East Lake Meadows in the redevelopment of the public housing project.\u0026nbsp; In May, 2008 he testified before Congress on the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 and in November, 2009 on strategic initiatives to address the mortgage foreclosure crisis.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EProfessor Alexander is past Chairman of CredAbility (formerly known as the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Atlanta), a non-profit community service agency providing consumer credit counseling, and of Community Friendship, Inc., a non-profit psycho-social rehabilitation program for the seriously mentally ill.\u0026nbsp;
