Beginning Sunday, some\nwill enjoy the outdoors by voluntarily sleeping under the stars, but not with\nthe usual supply of camping gear in tow.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThis Sunday night, MOVE (Mobilizing\nOpportunities for Volunteer Experience) launches its annual Hunger and\nHomelessness Awareness Week. Events will take place March 4\u20138 and, this year,\nMOVE leadership is implementing new events in order to amplify awareness among\nthe student body. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe week begins with one of the newest\nand most visible events, Shantytown: A Closer Look at Homelessness. From Sunday\nto Wednesday nights, the interactive exhibit allows student advocates to\nexperience displacement by camping out around the Campanile in tents, sleeping\nbags and cardboard boxes, while engaging in discussion facilitated by MOVE\ncommittee members.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe goal of these events is to raise\nawareness of homelessness, and by doing so, to break down negative stereotypes\nand misconceptions that students have about the homeless we encounter in\nAtlanta,\u201d said Lisa Thornsberry, a fourth-year Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering undergraduate and MOVE president.\n\u201cIt\u2019s a call to see these people as real human beings \u2014 with feelings and life\nexperiences \u2014 and to learn to address the issue by abolishing ignorance.\u201d \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EOther events include a Hunger Banquet,\nco-hosted by Oxfam at GT, in which participants will experience firsthand how\nsocioeconomic status affects hunger; a panel consisting of individuals who have\npreviously experienced homelessness; a viewing of award-winning documentary\n\u201cThe Human Experience;\u201d and volunteering opportunities with Caf\u00e9 458 and the Atlanta\nCommunity Food Bank.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EStudents are encouraged to participate in\nthe week\u2019s events by visiting the MOVE website for more details
