{"116701":{"#nid":"116701","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Students Wanted to Lead Freshmen in GT 1000","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAugust may\nbe five months away, but the incoming class of 2012 received admission\nnotifications this weekend, and the GT 1000 Team Leader Advisory Board (TLAB) is\nalready seeking Team Leaders for the popular freshman seminar.\n\n\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EGT 1000 is\na one-hour course offered to all students in their freshman year. Course\ninstructors come from all over campus and volunteer to help students assimilate\ninto the Georgia Tech community. Two to four upperclassmen students, known as\nTeam Leaders, pair up with an instructor to assist in teaching and mentoring\nfreshmen. Team Leaders shape the first few months freshmen spend on campus,\nintroducing them to Georgia Tech traditions, academic support, co-curricular\nactivities and the city of Atlanta.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cServing as a Team Leader, or TL, enables\nupperclassmen to give back to younger Yellow Jacket generations,\u201d said\nStephanie Savitz, a fourth-year business administration major and member of the\nTeam Leader Advisory Board. Savitz added that through her experience serving as\na TL and on the advisory board, she has developed leadership skills that help\nher more effectively communicate to faculty and staff, enhance her time\nmanagement and public speaking skills and find opportunities outside of GT\n1000.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EStudents\ninterested being Team Leaders should apply by Thursday, March 29, and are\nencouraged to attend an information session on\u0026nbsp;Tuesday, March 27, at 7\np.m. in room O17 (Chem Annex) of the College of Computing.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI have had so many GT\n1000 students come back and tell me that GT 1000 has been their favorite class,\neven after a couple years at Georgia Tech,\u201d said Savitz. \u201cAnother great thing\nthat comes from GT 1000 is being able to truly form friendships with those in\nthe class.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EApplicant\nqualifications include:\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003ECompleted two semesters at Georgia Tech by Fall 2012.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EEnrolled at Georgia Tech in Fall 2012.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EEarned a minimum 2.3 cumulative GPA (verified by the Office of the\nRegistrar).\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EGood Academic Standing and Good Judicial Standing (verified by the\nOffice of the Dean of Students).\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ECommit 2 hours per week in Fall 2012: 1 hour class time, 1 hour\nmeeting with instructor outside of class.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EAttend mandatory training session on Sunday, August 26.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EPromote and support GT 1000 programming.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ERead the Freshman Reading Project book (will be provided).\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EGT\n1000 is a one-hour freshman seminar elective that upperclassmen are given the\nopportunity to assist in planning and teaching.
