The interactive 3D digital artwork “Drawn Together” in Georgia Tech’s Stubbins Studio Gallery is set to close on March 30. The exhibition is free and open to the public weekdays 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Created by renowned digital artists the Open Ended Group, the landmark collaborative work helped launch TechArts, the campuswide initiative inspired by Georgia Tech’s strategic plan. Faculty and student collaborators were from music, architecture, computing, and industrial design.

Wearing headphones and 3D glasses, visitors interact with the physical manifestation of the installation, which echoes that of a drafting table. Armed with white drawing implements and black paper, one marks on the paper, and hears its trace amplified in the headphones. The computer then “answers” by projecting 3D lines that seem to draw themselves over, on, or under the paper. The virtual marks echo, extend, annotate, magnify, or complement the ones drawn physically, and as they draw in, the marks are accompanied by a music derived from the sound of your strokes.
