Lake Malawi cichlid fishes show differences in telencephalon patterning between two ecotypes. We demonstrate that timing of opposing developmental signals establish this divergence and can be artificially manipulated to mimic natural differences. Competing signals in telencephalon development may drive the evolution of novel morphology.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe Graduate and Post-Doc (GaP) Seminar Series is a weekly event of research presentations by two graduate students or post-docs conducting bio-related research. \u0026nbsp;The series is organized and sponsored by the Parker H.
