148321 news 1345559213 1653584976 <![CDATA[Prof. Dunham-Jones on the Post-Olympic City]]> Professor Ellen Dunham-Jones was a featured speaker in the panel discussion  "The After-Match," at Storefront for Art & Architecture, New York on August 14th. The event was part of  The Post-Olympic City, an exhibition of photographs by Jon Pack and Gary Hustwit. Best known for his design triolgy of documentaries Helvetica, Objectified, and Urbanized, Hustwit's new project with Pack documents the condition and uses of Olympic venues in over a dozen cities around the world after the Games have departed. Stark photos reveal unused and abandoned venues in Athens alongside neighborhood use of the high-dive in Barcelona. The Lake Placid, NY olympic village was designed to become a prison and is now occupied as such.

The panel included Noah Chasin, professor of urban design at Columbia and Bard Colleges and Grace La from Field Operations who explained the plans to dismantle all but six of the London 2012 Olympic facilities. Ellen Dunham-Jones noted how many London, Vancouver, and several other Olympic host cities used the Games to expedite improvements to their infrastructure. The legacy of expanded transit systems and innovative district energy systems are harder to photograph but often even more impactful.
