The course serves as a basic introduction to Lean Manufacturing, and provides participants real-life experience with the production process that helps transform companies into profitable enterprises.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EParticipants will learn how to identify and reduce waste in the work place, and improve scheduling systems through a series of lectures, role playing, and a three-round simulation. The simulation will focus on common problems manufacturing companies face such as, material problems, equipment issues, and late or slow deliveries. Utilizing these techniques can prevent overproduction and lower costs within an organization.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe Georgia Tech Lean Manufacturing Overview introduces participants to Lean concepts as well as staff looking for a refresher on Lean tools, techniques, and the eight wastes,\u201d says Tim Israel, group manager for Lean Enterprise and Quality Services at the Georgia Institute of Technology Enterprise Innovation Institute. \u201cIt is an interactive class with a three round simulation which illustrates the concepts covered in class discussions.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBasic Lean techniques including layout, flow, point-of-use storage, setup time reduction, and batch size reduction will be discussed. The course will also cover more advanced techniques like visual controls, quality at the source, workforce and management, pull systems and total productive maintenance.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe course is taught by 14 Georgia Tech instructors who have extensive experience with Lean processes.
