EPA STAR Fellowship Awarded to Public Policy Doctoral Student Joy Wang

Joy Wang, a student in the School of Public Policy, has been awarded an EPA STAR graduate fellowship to support her doctoral studies. Marilyn Brown, professor in the School of Public Policy, is advising Wang on her dissertation research which will examine the impact of information, like that provided by smart meters, on consumer behavior and energy use.

The EPA STAR fellowship is a generous, highly competitive program to support advanced degrees in environmental studies. Each year, students in the United States compete for $126,000 STAR fellowships through a rigorous review process. Students can pursue degrees in traditionally recognized environmental disciplines as well as other fields such as social anthropology, urban and regional planning, and decision sciences. Since the program began in 1995, EPA has awarded approximately 1,500 STAR fellowships to students in every state and most territories.
