In 1984, he graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFrom 1984 to 2006, Judge Batten was a trial lawyer with Schreeder, Wheeler \u0026amp; Flint, LLP, a medium-sized general business practice law firm in Atlanta, where he became a full equity partner in 1993. During his career he personally tried over twenty civil cases to verdict and materially participated in at least fifty other jury and bench trials. His work was plaintiff and defendant-oriented, encompassing a broad range of subjects, including medical malpractice, products liability, construction, commercial contracts, fraud, and personal injury.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn September 2005, President George W. Bush nominated Judge Batten to the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Georgia. The Senate unanimously confirmed his nomination in March 2006, and he began serving on the bench in April 2006.
