  <title><![CDATA[American Nuclear Society Annual Convention in Atlanta and CISTP-Hosted Dinner]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Professor Adam N. Stulberg (co-Director, CISTP) co-chaired and moderated a panel at the American Nuclear Society’s (ANS) Annual Meeting in Atlanta on June 17, 2013. The panel entitled, “Managing Spectrum of Risks of New Build Nuclear,” explored the global transformation of the commercial sector, and the prospective elements of novel business models for meeting the security and safely challenges facing the U.S. and international nuclear industry. &nbsp;</p><p>Panel participants included:</p><ul><li><strong>Mr. Bill Linton, Principal, Linton Consulting</strong></li><li><strong>Mr. Rob Graber, Principal, EnergyPath Corporation</strong></li><li><strong>Mr. Greg Kassner, Manager, World Association of Nuclear Operators, Atlanta Centre</strong></li></ul><p>Executive Discussants:</p><ul><li><strong>Mr. Amir Shahkarami, CEO, Exelon Nuclear Partners/SVP, Exelon Generation</strong></li><li><strong>Dr. Bill Travers, Director General, Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, UAE</strong></li></ul><ul><li><strong>Mr. Hee-Yong Lee, EVP, Korea Electric Power Company</strong></li><li><strong>Mr. Sandy Rupprecht, SVP, Westinghouse Electric Company &nbsp;</strong></li><li><strong>Mr. Shenjie Gu, Deputy Chief Engineer, Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research Design Institute (SNERDI)</strong></li><li><strong>Mr. David McKinney, Vice-President, Southern Nuclear Company</strong></li></ul><p><br />The Center for International Strategy, Technology, and Policy (CISTP) hosted a dinner at the Atlanta Academy of Medicine to extend the discussion from the ANS panel. The dinner was attended by distinguished corporate executives, industrial leaders, GT faculty and graduate students, and senior U.S. government officials, including Ms. Joyce Connery, Director, Nuclear Energy Policy, National Security Council, The White House; and Dr. Peter Lyons, Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy, Department of Energy. The informal dinner conversation explored mounting challenges confronting the U.S. nuclear industry.
