Students who are disappointed by their fall semester grades may be especially motivated to make positive changes in the new year, but may not know how to start or worry that they won’t follow through with their good intentions. The Center for Academic Success (CAS) encourages students who are not meeting their academic expectations to consider two of the Spring Academic Recovery Programs, Reboot and the Success Summit.

Reboot is a free, voluntary, non-credit program designed for first- and second-year students who are ready to focus on academic success. Reboot meets once a week for a 50-minute session, which includes a discussion-based workshop or activity. Participants are encouraged to log study hours, explore and use campus resources, and attend academic coaching sessions. The program’s purpose is to help students define and achieve their own academic goals and to develop effective study skills at Georgia Tech. Students in Reboot gain access to additional academic support services, including extra tutoring appointments and individualized attention from CAS staff members. In the past, Reboot has been a 15-week program, but beginning this spring, the program will meet for 6 weeks, with options in both the first and second halves of the semester (Reboot I will run from weeks 2-7 and Reboot II will run from weeks 8-13). Students who prefer the structure of a semester-long program are welcome to register for both sessions. Freshmen and sophomores who have a cumulative GPA of 2.2 or lower, or are on academic probation, will automatically receive an invitation to apply. Interested students who do not meet these criteria may also apply and can be accommodated if space allows.

The Success Summit is a half-day program especially for Tech students who are on academic probation and want to move into good standing. At the Summit, students will prepare for a strong semester by participating in several short workshops on topics related to study and learning strategies. The program also includes a Q & A session with a panel of Georgia Tech students who have been on academic probation and are now academically successful. The spring 2014 Success Summit will take place on the afternoon of January 10in the Clough Commons. Registration is free and includes light refreshments.

Information for both Reboot and the Success Summit is available on the CAS website at www.success.gatech.edu. Registration will remain open through early January.
