{"268871":{"#nid":"268871","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Students Thrive at the Fall 2013 HP Poster Session","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EFive Honors Program classes participated in our lively Fall 2013 Poster Session in the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons.\u0026nbsp; Special Topics courses in attendance included Communicating Science to the Public (BIOL 2803), Women in the Home and Multiethnic Women\u2019s Literature (LMC 2803), and Changing the World, One Digital Project at a Time (ECE 2883).\u0026nbsp; One of the Honors Program laboratory courses, Introductory Chemistry (CHEM 1310), was also in attendance.\u0026nbsp; Students, professors, and administrators alike enjoyed discovering what HP students had been working on throughout the semester.\u0026nbsp; The Fall Poster Session offered a unique opportunity for everyone involved in the Honors Program to come together and discuss his or her current interests and passions in a common space.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EStudents in Dr. Brown\u0027s CHEM 1310 raved about this course\u2019s new structure: instead on focusing on traditional concepts and memorization, this section highly emphasized policy implications.\u0026nbsp; Similarly, each Special Topics course present displayed novel and highly engaging learning outcomes.\u0026nbsp; Students in Dr. Jennifer Leavey\u2019s course, Communicating Science to the Public, collaborated with teachers from Centennial Elementary to teach fifth graders a variety of science concepts using visual displays.\u0026nbsp; Dr. Tom Collins\u2019 course, Changing the World, One Digital Design Project at a Time, required students to build advanced hardware.\u0026nbsp; One group, comprised of sophomores\u0026nbsp;Angela Vujic, Rafael Domingo, Alec Lombardo, Danielle Wright, and Nedo Karaulac, brought a prototype of a highly responsive motion-sensing camera for use in the wild to aid conservation research.\u0026nbsp; Dr. Kathryn Meehan\u2019s class, one of the Honors Program CASE studies, displayed abstracts from various works composed throughout the semester and coordinating artwork.\u0026nbsp; Dr. Meehan\u2019s students also discussed their volunteer efforts at the Atlanta Women\u2019s Shelter.\u0026nbsp; The vast range of student projects truly reflected the interdisciplinary and ingenuity of the current Honors Program students.\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":"","field_summary_sentence":"","uid":"27921","created_gmt":"2014-01-16 15:41:06","changed_gmt":"2016-10-08 03:15:40","author":"Katie Geddes","boilerplate_text":"","field_publication":"","field_article_url":"","dateline":{"date":"2013-12-06T00:00:00-05:00","iso_date":"2013-12-06T00:00:00-05:00","tz":"America\/New_York"},"extras":[],"hg_media":{"268891":{"id":"268891","type":"image","title":"ECE 2883 HP","body":null,"created":"1449244058","gmt_created":"2015-12-04 15:47:38","changed":"1475894956","gmt_changed":"2016-10-08 02:49:16","alt":"ECE 2883 HP","file":{"fid":"198586","name":"ece_2883.jpg","image_path":"\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/ece_2883_0.jpg","image_full_path":"http:\/\/tlwarc.hg.gatech.edu\/\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/ece_2883_0.jpg","mime":"image\/jpeg","size":68836,"path_740":"http:\/\/tlwarc.hg.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/740xx_scale\/public\/images\/ece_2883_0.jpg?itok=1dWPAxPi"}}},"media_ids":["268891"],"groups":[{"id":"72437","name":"Honors Program"}],"categories":[],"keywords":[{"id":"4201","name":"honors program"}],"core_research_areas":[],"news_room_topics":[],"event_categories":[],"invited_audience":[],"affiliations":[],"classification":[],"areas_of_expertise":[],"news_and_recent_appearances":[],"phone":[],"contact":[],"email":[],"slides":[],"orientation":[],"userdata":""}}}
