Yellow Jackets will take Women’s Awareness Month at Georgia Tech into the surrounding community on Saturday, March 1, with a Women’s Day of Service.

“This is the biggest Women’s Day of Service in several years,” said Gwen Hughes, a public policy major and co-chair for this year’s event. “We normally have about 40 people but we’re expecting over a hundred this year.” Amy Phuong, the City of Atlanta’s chief service officer and a Tech alumna, will deliver a keynote at the event.

Participants in this year’s Women’s Day of Service will volunteer with organizations including the Luke Project, MedShare, the Hope Store, Hosea Feed the Hungry, and the Atlanta Community ToolBank. They’ll receive a free T-shirt and complimentary breakfast from the Flying Biscuit. Both men and women are invited to participate.

The event is one of many programs and events this month focusing on women on campus and women’s issues. Other events include Take Back the Night, performances of The Vagina Monologues, and a coding event for high school women.

Students should sign up in advance of the event to participate.
