{"331291":{"#nid":"331291","#data":{"type":"news","title":"InVenture Challenge grows","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAn annual competition at Georgia Institute of Technology has a new partner in its efforts to foster students\u2019 interest in innovation, design and engineering.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ETech\u2019s InVenture Challenge is now working with IronCAD, an Atlanta-based provider of design productivity solutions, to expose more students to engineering and entrepreneurship.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe InVenture Challenge began in 2012 to challenge elementary, middle and high school students to identify a real-world problem and test a solution.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ESo far, 19 schools have registered to participate in this year\u2019s competition, which allows students to invent new products in their classes. The top teams from each school will exhibit their work on Tech\u2019s campus April 1.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe challenge is an extension of the InVenture Prize, Georgia Tech\u2019s annual invention competition for undergraduate students.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIronCAD provided nearly $200,000 worth of software, teacher training and financial support to the classes participating in this year\u2019s InVenture Challenge.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThis is a fun and exciting way to inspire and reach out to the next generation of mechanical engineers,\u201d IronCAD COO Jan Tung said. \u201cWe have seen success in all levels of education throughout the world using IronCAD in classrooms and competitions, and we are glad to be partnering with Georgia Tech to bring these programs to our local communities.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIronCAD\u2019s support will enhance the InVenture Challenge experience for students and teachers, said Roxanne Moore, one of the event\u2019s organizers.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cStudents will now be able to design, test and display their ideas,\u201d said Moore, a research engineer with Tech\u2019s Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC). \u201cInVenture allows students to think about real-world problems and engage with them in a hands-on way so that learning happens naturally.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ETeachers at the following schools have registered for the 2015 InVenture Challenge:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EDrew, Jonesboro and Morrow high schools in Clayton County\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ECheatham Hill, Mountain View and Murdock elementary schools in Cobb County\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EDeKalb Early College Academy in DeKalb County\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ELambert High School in Forsyth County\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EBanneker and Creekside high schools in Fulton County\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EChestatee High School in Hall County\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EHampton High School in Henry County\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ECollins Hill High School and the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology in Gwinnett County\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EMount Vernon Presbyterian School in Marietta\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ENorth Oconee and Oconee high schools in Oconee County\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ERockdale Magnet in Rockdale County\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EGriffin High School in Spalding County\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":[{"value":"Support from new partner boosts Georgia Tech\u2019s annual competition for K-12 students"}],"field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ESo far, 19 schools have registered to participate in this year\u2019s InVenture Challenge competition, which allows students to invent new products in their classes.\u0026nbsp;Teachers can still sign up for this year\u0027s contest.
