331811 event 1412686557 1475892582 <![CDATA[What Does It Mean to Be Intelligent?: A Frontiers in Science Talk by Randy Engle]]> Human intelligence is a product of both culture and biology. Randy Engle, professor in Georgia Tech's School of Psychology, speaks about how the cultural and biological aspects of human intelligence differ from each other and even change over a lifetime. He'll talk about how biologically-based intelligence, known as fluid intelligence, is involved in our ability to pay attention and resist distractions. He'll also discuss how fluid intelligence is heritable, yet depends also to a great extent on socio-economic status. He'll uncover some of the brain mechanisms and genetics involved in fluid intelligence as well as discuss recent attempts, by such companies as the web site Lumosity, to help people improve their fluid intelligence.

After the talk there will be a reception and time for visitors to chat with Engle and each other.
