Venet was a guest lecturer on the rebirth of Atlanta for the class Georgia and the Civil War, an interdisciplinary course taught jointly by \u003Cstrong\u003EIvan Allen College\u003C\/strong\u003E Dean \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/faculty-and-staff\/staff\/royster\u0022\u003EJacqueline Royste\u003C\/a\u003Er and \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/faculty-and-staff\/faculty\/bio\/goodman\u0022\u003ESeymour Goodman\u003C\/a\u003E, professor in the \u003Cstrong\u003ENunn School\u003C\/strong\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ERepresentatives and students from across Tech\u0027s campus were in attendance, including academics in the domains of Civil War history, Atlanta history, economics, city and regional planning, and public policy. Venet spoke on the rebuilding of Altanta in the Reconstruction period following the Civil War, exploring narratives of the personal struggles and stories of survival of various citizens and the city of Atlanta during this tumultuous period. Venet\u0027s book was constructed through in-depth research of public records and individual letters, lending a uniquely personal touch to the story of Atlanta rising from the ashes after the burning of the city by General Sherman.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EA Changing Wind\u003C\/em\u003E vividly brings to life the stories of Atlanta\u2019s diverse citizens\u2014white and black, free and enslaved, well-to-do and everyday people. A rich and compelling account of residents\u2019 changing loyalties to the Union and the Confederacy, the book highlights the unequal economic and social impacts of the war, General Sherman\u2019s siege, and the stunning rebirth of the city in postwar years.
