With recent and\u0026nbsp;future advances in wireless networking allowing all such devices to interact with each\u0026nbsp;other and with the cloud, it becomes possible to combine and augment capabilities\u0026nbsp;of individual devices via services running at the edge - in edge clouds - and\/or via\u0026nbsp;services running in remote datacenters.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe virtual platform approach to combining and enhancing such devices\u0026nbsp;developed in this research makes possible the creation of innovative end user services,\u0026nbsp;using low-latency communications with nearby devices to create for each end user\u0026nbsp;exactly the platform needed for current tasks, guided by permissions and policies\u0026nbsp;controlled by remote, cloud-resident social network services (SNS).
