{"425201":{"#nid":"425201","#data":{"type":"news","title":"AIAA names Prof. Dimitri Mavris to direct the Aircraft and Atmospheric Systems Group","body":[{"value":"Apr 16, 2014\u003Ctable width=\u0022200\u0022 border=\u00220\u0022 cellspacing=\u00221\u0022 cellpadding=\u00225\u0022 align=\u0022right\u0022\u003E\u003Ctbody\u003E\u003Ctr\u003E\u003Ctd\u003E\u003C\/td\u003E\u003C\/tr\u003E\u003Ctr\u003E\u003Ctd class=\u0022rtecenter\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Cem\u003EDr. Dimitri Mavris\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cem\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EBoeing Professor of Advanced Aerospace Systems Analysis, ASDL director,\u0026nbsp; and newly appointed\u0026nbsp; head of AIAA\u0027s Aircraft and Atmospheric Systems Group\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/td\u003E\u003C\/tr\u003E\u003C\/tbody\u003E\u003C\/table\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) recently announced that AE Professor\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/ae.gatech.edu\/community\/staff\/bio\/mavris-d\u0022\u003EDimitri Mavris\u003C\/a\u003Ehas been elected to serve a three-year term as the organization\u2019s director for the Aircraft and Atmospheric Systems Group (AASG).\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAnnouncement of Mavris\u2019s election to this leadership position came April 7 and will become effective with AIAA\u2019s next board meeting, to be held in Washington, DC on May 1.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe AASG oversees the activities of several technical committees within AIAA, including: Aircraft Design, Aerodynamic Decelerator Systems, Air Transportation Systems, Aircraft Operations, Balloon Systems, Flight Testing, General Aviation, Lighter-than-Air Systems, Product Support and V\/STOL Aircraft Systems.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EMavris said he is excited to be heading up the work of the AASG, which is comprised of government, academic, and industry leaders from across the country.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cActive involvement in AIAA has been an integral part of my life throughout my career, so I am dedicated to developing and executing strategic initiatives to advance the state of aerospace disciplines and create exciting opportunities for our membership,\u201d he said.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ECurrently the Boeing Professor of Advanced Aerospace Systems Analysis and the director of Georgia Tech\u2019s Aerospace Systems Design Lab (ASDL), Mavris is the recipient of numerous career honors, including an NSF Early Career Award.
