<![CDATA[ISyE Graduate Wins INFORMS TSL Dissertation Prize]]>
Former PhD student Juan C. Morales was awarded the prestigious TSL Dissertation Prize by the Transportation Science and Logistics Society (TSL) of INFORMS for his thesis entitled "Planning Robust Freight Transportation Operations.* In his dissertation, Morales focuses on the problems of fleet management in freight transportation systems, specifically considering alternative approaches inspired by recent work in robust optimization.
Morales was co-advised by Stewart School faculty members Dr. Alan Erera, and Dr. Martin Savelsbergh.
The TSL Dissertation Prize is the oldest and most prestigious honor for doctoral dissertations in the transportation science and logistics area. It is accompanied by a $500.00 honorarium. Morales received the award at the 2007 INFORMS Annual Meeting in Seattle on November 4.
Dr. Morales is currently a senior operations research specialist at BNSF Railway Company.
