{"50247":{"#nid":"50247","#data":{"type":"news","title":"New Faculty Orientation Held Feburary 2","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EOn Tuesday, February 2, the Office\nof Sponsored Programs (OSP) will hold its New Faculty Orientation to Sponsored\nPrograms for the spring semester. Although the office participates in the\nCenter for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) new faculty\norientation each fall semester, this presentation and luncheon is unique to\nproviding information about the resources offered by OSP. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cA number of new faculty members\narrive at Tech in January,\u201d said OSP eCommerce Officer Michelle Powell. \u201cThey\nmay not be aware of the tools [OSP provides] for locating funding and preparing\nproposals. We also talk about research compliance and IP [intellectual\nproperty] issues.\u201d \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe orientation will provide attendees\nwith an overview of services that OSP provides along with a survey of Institute\nand federal policies and procedures on research contracts. Services offered by\nOSP include the review and submission of all sponsored project proposals, as\nwell as conducting post-award grant and contract administration services for\nthe Institute. Other OSP services covered include proposal and project\nreporting; copying, subcontract negotiations; and administration under\nsponsored projects. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EOther resources for faculty covered\ninclude identification of funding opportunities, OSP training in sponsored\nprograms, such as National Science Foundation FastLane, Cayuse 424, Grants.gov,\nDepartment of Defense Contracting, Industrial Contracting and budgets.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\nRepresentatives from the Office of Research Compliance will discuss the\napproval processes of the Institutional Review Board (testing involving human\nsubjects), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the Institutional\nBiosafety Committee (research involving rDNA). Technology Licensing and Georgia\nTech Research Corporation representatives also will be on-hand to answer\nquestions. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\n\nHeld in the Research\nAdministration Seminar Room from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m, the class is limited to\nroughly 30 people.
