Safety Tips for Spring Break Travelers

Spring break and summer travels are on the horizon, and in preparation for a week away, the Center for Community Health and Wellbeing has put together few tips for staying safe:

Whether you stay on campus or travel, relax. Take a mental vacation so you can come back to school refreshed.

Before you leave campus, pick up your Tobacco Quit Hit and safer sex supplies at the Office of Health Promotion on the second floor of Stamps Health Services.

Buckle up and make sure you arrive safely at your destination.

If you choose to use alcohol, alternate drinks with water and limit yourself to one drink per hour.

Be an active bystander. Make sure both you and your friends are safe.

Treat yourself to special foods you don’t have every day, but remember to indulge in moderation.

If you choose to be sexually active, get consent and use protection.

While no local mosquito-borne Zika virus disease cases have been reported in U.S. states, there have been travel-associated cases. For those who have concerns about travel to locations where the Zika virus has been identified and want more information, the Center recommends the following resources:

Stamps Health Zika Virus Notice

Areas with Zika

Avoid Mosquito Bites

Lastly, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers a set of action items to take before, during, and after Spring Break.
