Edge and cloud connected devices have fueled the need for massive storage advances. Ability to store, access, process, and analyze this data has opened up new frontiers in big data computing, networking, and memory technologies.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThis talk traces our journey from a traditional computing constrained environment to a data centric computing architecture. We will review the current storage and memory markets and state-of-the-art in component technologies. We will also examine the big breakthroughs that are fueling our ability to handle this explosion in data. The move from rotating magnetic media to three-dimensional, solid-state storage drives and the emergence of a new category of memory called the \u0022Storage Class Memory\u0022 will be outlined. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ESiva Sivaram, executive vice president for SanDisk Corporation, will discuss how market realities blend with the unrelenting progress in technology. He will provide perspectives from pioneers in the field to evaluate where the big opportunities for innovation will emerge.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022Default\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EThe lecture will be followed by a reception in the lobby of Bunger-Henry.\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022Pa1\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong class=\u0022Pa1\u0022\u003ESpeaker Bio:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EDr. Siva Sivaram is the executive vice president of memory technology for SanDisk, responsible for the ongoing development of the company\u0027s industry-leading NAND flash memory, as well as the development of next-generation technologies, including 3D NAND (BiCS) and 3D ReRAM. Sivaram has over 27 years of experience in semiconductors, 3-D memory architectures, process technology, equipment and materials. He has held executive positions at Intel and Matrix Semiconductor (Matrix), and at SanDisk after its acquisition of Matrix. Additionally, he founded and led Twin Creeks Technologies, a solar panel and equipment company, has served as a board member for a number of start-up firms, was entrepreneur-in-residence at Crosslink Capital and XSeed Capital, a research scholar at Matsushita Electric, and an adjunct faculty member at San Jose State University.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022Pa1\u0022\u003ESivaram has published numerous technical papers as well as a textbook on chemical vapor deposition, and he holds several patents.
