With the emergence of the Internet and of the\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nInternet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN),\u003Cbr \/\u003E\ngovernments\u2019 roles have dramatically changed. In ICANN only the United\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nStates government has direct control over the management of core\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nInternet resources. This has not eliminated political influences on\u003Cbr \/\u003E\ntechnology, but it has narrowed their scope. This talk will examine how\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nthe political shaping of global communications has changed in the\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nevolution from the ITU to ICANN.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EBIO: Hans Klein is Associate Professor of Public Policy at Georgia\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nTech. He is a co-founder of the Internet Governance Project\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n(\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.IGP.org\u0022 title=\u0022www.IGP.org\u0022\u003Ewww.IGP.org\u003C\/a\u003E) , a collaborative research and policy project focused on\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nglobal Internet governance.
