Bossart and James Efron Scholarship, for the top out-of-state junior in the College of Sciences. Allen hails from Tennessee, has been a \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.enrichment.gatech.edu\/gt1000\/team-leaders\u0022\u003EGT1000 team leader\u003C\/a\u003E, and volunteers with \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.crc.gatech.edu\/orgt\/content\/1\/about-orgt\u0022\u003EOutdoor Recreation Georgia Tech\u003C\/a\u003E. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003EAlexander M. Covington, a graduating physics major, received the Roger M. Wartell and Stephen E. Brossette Award for Multidisciplinary Studies in Biology, Physics, and Mathematics. Covington\u2019s research with School of Physics\u2019 \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.physics.gatech.edu\/user\/james-jc-gumbart\u0022\u003EJames C. Gumbart\u003C\/a\u003E involves using molecular dynamics simulations to understand the structure and function of small proteins. Covington was an editor and writer for Georgia Tech\u2019s student newspaper, \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/nique.net\/\u0022\u003ETechnique\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003EAlex B. George, a biochemistry major, received the Robert A. Pierotti Memorial Scholarship, for a graduating senior excelling in both academics and research. In addition to a 4.0 GPA, George has conducted undergraduate research with the School of Chemistry\u2019s \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.chemistry.gatech.edu\/faculty\/oyelere\/\u0022\u003EAdegboyega K. (Yomi) Oyelere\u003C\/a\u003E and with \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/bme.gatech.edu\/bme\/faculty\/Michael-Davis\u0022\u003EMichael E. Davis\u003C\/a\u003E of the Walter E. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME). George is a coauthor in a \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0968089615003946\u0022\u003Epaper\u003C\/a\u003E published in 2015 in the journal Bioorganic Medicinal Chemistry and in a paper to be published in \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/stemcellstm.alphamedpress.org\/\u0022\u003EStem Cells Translational Medicine\u003C\/a\u003E. George is headed to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center, in Bethesda, Md., where he will conduct full-time research as part of \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.training.nih.gov\/programs\/postbac_\u0022\u003ENIH\u2019s Post-Baccalaureate Intramural Research Training Program.\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003EZixin (Wendy) Jiang, a graduating physics and applied mathematics double major, received the A. Joyce Nickelson and John C. Sutherland Undergraduate Research Award, for an undergraduate student who has jointly studied mathematics and physics and has engaged in research. Jiang has conducted research with the School of Physics\u2019 \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cra.gatech.edu\/people\/tbogdanovic6\u0022\u003ETamara Bogdanovic\u003C\/a\u003E and \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.physics.gatech.edu\/user\/michael-chapman\u0022\u003EMichael S. Chapman\u003C\/a\u003E, as well as with the School of Mathematics\u2019 \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/people.math.gatech.edu\/~ib\/\u0022\u003EIgor Belegradek\u003C\/a\u003E. \u0026nbsp;In her spare time, Jiang was a violinist for the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/GT-Symphony-Orchestra-104185346312441\/\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Symphony Orchestra\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003EJune Y. (Austin) Moon, a biology major, received the Virginia C. and Herschel V. Clanton Jr. Scholarship, for a top pre-medical student in the College of Sciences. Moon participates in undergraduate research with the School of Biology\u2019s \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.biology.gatech.edu\/people\/yuhong-fan\u0022\u003EYuhong Fan\u003C\/a\u003E, in whose lab he studies differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells. \u0026nbsp;He served as treasurer of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.redcross.gtorg.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EAmerican Red Cross Club at Georgia Tech\u003C\/a\u003E and is now the advocacy coordinator of the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.gtamsa.org\/\u0022\u003EAmerican Medical Student Association at Georgia Tech\u003C\/a\u003E. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003EKrishma Singal, a physics major, received the Mehta Phingbodhipakkiya Undergraduate Memorial Scholarship. Singal has been an undergraduate research assistant working in the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/chaos.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ECHAOS (Complex Hearth Arrhythmias and Oscillating Systems) lab\u003C\/a\u003E of the School of Physics\u2019 \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.physics.gatech.edu\/user\/flavio-fenton\u0022\u003EFlavio H. Fenton\u003C\/a\u003E. She served in the organizing committee of the highly successful \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cos.gatech.edu\/content\/women-physics-meet-georgia-tech\u0022\u003EConference for Undergraduate Women in Physics held at Georgia Tech\u003C\/a\u003E in January. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003EThe six award recipients were honored in the campus-wide Student Honors Celebration on April 20, 2016. \u201cThat event is an important opportunity in the academic calendar year to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of our students,\u201d says Associate Dean Collard. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003EAlmost all awardees joined the College of Sciences Advisory Board Members, Dean Paul M.
