{"54813":{"#nid":"54813","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Ideas 2 SERVE Competition Finals Wednesday","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EFinalists in the Ideas to SERVE\n(Socially and Environmentally Responsible Value Enhancement) competition will\nshowcase their ideas tomorrow afternoon during the IMPACT Speaker Series at the\nCollege of Management. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ERoughly 25 undergraduate and\ngraduate students, representing a variety of disciplines from engineering and\narchitecture to management, will compete for $12,000 in combined prizes. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ETeams\nand individuals representing eight ideas are finalists in two Ideas 2 SERVE\n(I2S) categories, Social Solutions and Environmental Solutions. Another eight\nteams will compete for the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation Award, which\nrecognizes ideas that help mitigate poverty\u2019s effects on Georgia\u2019s low-income\nfamilies. Three teams overlap and are competing in both categories.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EIn its second year, the I2S\ncompetition seeks to find \u201cearly-stage products or venture concepts that [are]\nfocused on creating a better world,\u201d according to the Institute for Leadership\nand Entrepreneurship (ILE), which produces the competition. Although housed in\nthe College of Management, the competition is open to all Tech\nundergraduate and graduate students and recent alumni. This is the first year\nI2S has offered a monetary prize for Blank Foundation finalists.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThis competition fills a niche\nthat\u2019s very valuable, not only to the College of Management, but also to Georgia\nTech as a whole,\u201d says ILE Research Scientist D\u00f3ri Pap. \u201cIt really showcases\nthe Institute\u2019s best examples of social entrepreneurship.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EVarious prizes with a range of monetary values will be offered, such as the Social Entrepreneurship and the\nSustainable Systems prizes, which are $1,250 each. A People\u2019s Choice Winner,\nchosen by the audience, will win $500. A total of $5,000 will be distributed to various winners of the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation Prizes.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EJudges include Jerome A. Atkinson,\na retired executive vice president with Fortune 500 company Assurant Inc.; Ann Cramer, a director with IBM Corporation; Val\nPeterson, former president of the ARCS Foundation\u2014Colorado Chapter, which\nraised money for science scholarships; and Bill Todd, president and CEO of the\nGeorgia Cancer Coalition. Kathleen Kurre, CEO of TechBridge and founder of Fusion Advisors LLC, will host the event.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EI2S and Arthur M. Blank Family\nFoundation Prize finalists will present their ideas March 10 from 4:30 to 6:30\np.m. in the LeCraw Auditorium of the College of Management during the regular time for the IMPACT Speaker Series, in a presentation titled \u0022Students who IMPACT.\u0022 Each team will have\nthree minutes to present their ideas, and then will answer questions from the\njudges.
