Presented by the\nNational Science Foundation, the award is one of the most prestigious for\njunior faculty who \u201cmost effectively integrate research and education within\nthe context of the mission of their organization.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EBetween her unsuccessful submission\nto the program and her later successful one, she credits several campus\nresources that helped refine and fine-tune her proposal, including the annual\nNSF CAREER Panel Discussion workshop hosted by the Office of Sponsored\nPrograms. Harris will be one of the panel members at this year\u2019s event, on May\n26 from 9 to 11 a.m.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe OSP panel was one of many that\nI attended,\u201d she said. \u201cHowever, there was one concept mentioned that I had not\nheard before\u2014\u2018Include references in your education plan.\u2019\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EHarris says she will contrast her\ntwo award submissions, and also gives some advice in advance to those attending\nthe workshop. \u201cAttendees should write the summary of their work and most of the\ndocument, such that their specific questions can be addressed [by the panel],\u201d\nshe said.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe NSF encourages submission of\nCAREER proposals from all junior faculty members and especially encourages\nwomen, members of underrepresented minority groups, and persons with\ndisabilities to apply. The panel discussion will be held in the Research\nAdministration Building, 505 Tenth Street.
