{"571081":{"#nid":"571081","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Get to know GTPD at Campus Safety Day Sept. 6","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EEach year since 2009, the Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD) has rolled out the welcome mat for the campus community with Campus Safety Day.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThis year\u2019s event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Tech Walkway and will include a number of partnering agencies and on-campus programs designed to keep students safe and healthy.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe objective of Campus Safety Day is to engage and educate the campus community about all the services we provide them, technology and equipment we use, and to meet the people who help keep the campus safe,\u201d said Officer Brian Bonus of the campus Core Team. \u201cWe also would like to highlight other campus departments that help keep them safe and our local first responder partners that aid in safeguarding the community.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ECampus Safety Day 2016 will include static displays of all GTPD vehicles and equipment, the K9 unit, motorcycles, and Mobile Field Force.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn addition to the static displays and equipment, students can try out the DUI simulator, see MARTA\u2019s mobile command unit, meet the Atlanta Police Department\u2019s (APD) mounted patrol and check out the APD SWAT armored vehicle. Students will also have an opportunity to meet GTPD Chief Rob Connolly and get a selfie with K9 units Koda and Miley.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EJoining GTPD this year \u2013 in addition to the Atlanta Police Department \u2013 will be the MARTA Police, Georgia State Patrol, Fulton County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Atlanta Fire Department, the Midtown Alliance and Georgia Emergency Management Agency. Campus services such as Health Services, the pharmacy, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) cybersecurity team, the Office of Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Health \u0026amp; Safety, and the Bicycle Infrastructure Improvement Committee will also be present.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAnyone who signs up for the LiveSafe app for the mobile phone will receive GTPD giveaways and T-shirts. The more than 5,300 current LiveSafe users comprise about 18 percent of the Georgia Tech community.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe hope the students will feel safe and secure on campus and have confidence in GTPD,\u201d Bonus said. \u201cIt\u2019s not just GTPD, but a lot of the agencies and programs here on campus are committed to putting the students\u2019 safety and security as our main priority.
