Shemyakina presented during the session “Gender Discrimination and Violence.” Her talk focused on the impact of armed conflict on women and children. In addition, she discussed the effects of conflict on education, health, labor market outcomes, and well-being. She explored  the differences in these for men and women.

The “Responding to Crises” conference was organized by the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER). The conference aims to improve knowledge about ongoing, unexpected, and future crises, and to discuss the options available for responses by governments, international agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society, and private citizens.
