Allen Lecture

An endowed lecture was established by alumni, faculty and friends in honor of Professor Douglas C. Allen in appreciation for his long-time dedication to the College of Architecture as a teacher, colleague and leader. The project's foremost objective was to thank Doug for his inspired teaching and thinking over his tenure and for his inspired work as Interim Dean. Participants also wanted to give the lecture series a shot of adrenaline which would benefit the College and community for generations to come. Finally, donors saw the Douglas C. Allen Lecture as an annual reunion around a great speaker in honor of a cherished figure at the College.

Jim Winer (Arch 1982) and David Green (Arch 1987), both former students of Allen, spearheaded the secret project simply by circulating an email and urging their contacts to reach out to others. Mickey Steinberg (Arch 1954) made a major gift which really made the endowment possible. The fund, totaling over $100,000 was announced to Allen at an alumni gathering at The Globe restaurant June 9. Galloway, coordinating taskforce groups to honor Galloway's vision and to ensure progress while the College anticipated the selection of its fourth dean. "Doug's work as Interim Dean and as a teacher and colleague are valuable to each of us and to the College," said Winer. "As people are still learning about the endowment, it's important to note that it's not too late to contribute to the fund.
