According to the 2015 to 2016 Office of International Education (OIE) data, 54 percent of Georgia Tech undergraduates graduated with an international experience! In an effort to help Tech students mature into global citizens, there are many OIE-sponsored scholarships, academic initiatives, and events each semester. October is a month rich with international activities and we hope that your student is able to participate in as many of these as possible.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EStudy Abroad Scholarships\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nDid you know that OIE administers nearly $250,000 in study abroad scholarships each year? These scholarships are intended to help students who wouldn\u0026rsquo;t be able to afford study abroad to have the experience of a lifetime. These scholarships are made possible by the generosity of donors who recognize the importance of education abroad. The Bill George International Study Abroad Scholarship is special, because students can apply for this award without knowing which program they plan to participate in and also apply semesters before they actually study abroad. Co-sponsored by the Office of International Education and the School of Modern Languages, this fair has a specific focus on connecting German-affiliated companies and organizations with German-speaking Georgia Tech students who are seeking internship and full-time work opportunities in Germany and in the US. Through this event, companies and organizations can meet and network with top Georgia Tech students, many with German language proficiency, from fields such as engineering, computer science, business, sciences, and liberal arts.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThere is strong interest among Georgia Tech students to gain global work experience, particularly in Germany, with its strong market for engineers and business:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EA recent survey of Tech undergraduate students revealed that Germany is their top desired location to have an international experience.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EIn a typical semester, more than 300 GT students are enrolled in German language courses.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EIn the last academic year, 40 Tech students interned abroad with German companies, which makes Germany our top destination for overseas internships. And, nearly 100 students studied abroad in Germany.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EChemical \u0026amp; Biomolecular Engineering Joins the International Plan\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nThe International Plan is thrilled to welcome Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE) as the newest major offering the IP distinction! With the addition of ChBE, 27 undergraduate majors now participate in the International Plan. ChBE students from all class levels, but especially first- and second-year students, are encouraged to consider joining the IP as a way to internationalize their major and incorporate global coursework, international experiences, and language learning into their overall curriculum.
