Weitz, has won the Postgraduate Textbook Prize of the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.rsb.org.uk\/get-involved\/awards-and-competitions\/book-awards\u0022\u003ERoyal Society of Biology\u0026rsquo;s 2016 Book Awards\u003C\/a\u003E. \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/ecotheory.biology.gatech.edu\/people\/joshua-weitz\u0022\u003EWeitz\u003C\/a\u003E is a professor in Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.biosci.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Biological Sciences\u003C\/a\u003E, the director of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.qbios.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EInterdisciplinary Graduate Program in Quantitative Biosciences\u003C\/a\u003E, and a researcher in the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.ibb.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EPetit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience\u003C\/a\u003E. His book was selected over three other finalists.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nIn selecting Weitz\u0026rsquo;s book, the judges wrote: \u0026ldquo;Beneath its unassuming plain green cover is a novel, readable and extensive scholarly work on viruses and their interactions. A superb introduction to [a] new field of research.\u0026rdquo;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nWeitz\u0026rsquo;s book was published in December 2015 by Princeton University Press in their Monographs in Population Biology series.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nThe monograph addresses three major questions:\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026bull;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;What are viruses of microbes, and what do they do to their hosts?\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026bull;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;How do interactions of a single virus-host pair affect the number and traits of hosts and virus populations?\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026bull;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;How do virus-host dynamics emerge in natural environments, when interactions take place between many viruses and many hosts?\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nSays Weitz: \u0026ldquo;The monograph emphasizes the ways in which theory and models can provide insights into all of these questions and provides a cohesive framework to the study of new challenges in the ongoing dynamics between viruses and their microbial hosts.\u0026rdquo;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nIn selecting the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.rsb.org.uk\/news\/14-news\/1566-biology-book-awards-shortlists-revealed\u0022\u003Efinalists for the postgraduate textbook category\u003C\/a\u003E, judges were looking for books that were timely, coherent, accurate, and readable. Kitney, Geoff Baldwin, Travis Bayer, Robert Dickinson, Tom Ellis, Karen Polizzi, and Guy-Bart Stan, published by Imperial College Press; and \u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026bull;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EThe Origin of Higher Taxa\u003C\/em\u003E, T.
