{"583692":{"#nid":"583692","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Charitable Campaign Enters Final Days","body":[{"value":"\u003Ch3\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EUpdate: \u003C\/strong\u003EThe 2017 Charitable Campaign deadline has been extended to Monday, Nov. 21.\u003C\/h3\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETech employees have until Nov. 21\u0026nbsp;to make their 2017 pledge to the nonprofit of their choice through the annual \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/charitable.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ECharitable Campaign\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe State Charitable Contributions Program is a chance for employees across the state to come together to help those in need. It emphasizes giving, in any amount, to one of more than 1,000 charities that have been vetted by the state and support charitable work around the state and country.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;We can truly change lives by giving to organizations that are teaching children to read, protecting abused women, feeding the elderly, planting trees, and rescuing animals,\u0026rdquo; said Bill Todd, vice chair of Tech\u0026rsquo;s Charitable Campaign this year and professor of the practice in the Scheller College of Business. \u0026ldquo;There are 1,300 organizations that have all been vetted as honest and effective that will receive funds as directed by donors. Surely every faculty and staff member cares about some social issue among that exhaustive list.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech has a history of generosity in the campaign. It has received the Governor\u0026rsquo;s Cup nine years in a row, which honors the state institution with the highest contribution per employee. Tech has won the Cup a total of 14 times in the past.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Our community has a long history of supporting the communities in which we live and work,\u0026rdquo; said Georgia Tech President G.P. \u0026ldquo;Bud\u0026rdquo; Peterson. \u0026ldquo;I\u0026rsquo;m tremendously proud of the strong legacy of support of the annual Charitable Campaign from our faculty, staff, and retirees.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe easiest, most secure way to give is through an annual gift, made via payroll deduction, at \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/techworks.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003Etechworks.gatech.edu\u003C\/a\u003E. Payroll deductions will begin with the first paycheck in January 2017. Employees may also give one-time donations via \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/techworks.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ETechWorks\u003C\/a\u003E or check.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I would like to thank you in advance for your\u0026nbsp;commitment to the 1,000 local and national charities, as well as the general campaign,\u0026rdquo; said Peterson. \u0026ldquo;Through your generosity, you are setting the standard for giving back to our communities, but more importantly, you are impacting the lives of hundreds of thousands in our region, our state, and our nation. Thank you for your generous support.\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe annual campaign collects donations for nonprofits and charitable organizations that serve communities all over the state and beyond. All state entities, including University System of Georgia (USG) schools, participate in the annual fundraiser. Last year, more than 1,100 Tech employees pledged more than $351,000 to 390 charitable organizations.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDonations are accepted via payroll deduction on an ongoing basis, or as a one-time donation. For those who choose to give through payroll deduction, the contributions will begin in January 2017.
