Haltiwanger, an economist and member of the National Academy of Sciences panel on \u0026ldquo;Information Technology, Automation and the U.S. Workforce,\u0026rdquo; is a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Maryland.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn the late 1990s, Haltiwanger served as chief economist of the U.S. Census Bureau. He is a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, a fellow of the Society of Labor Economics, a fellow of the Econometric Society, and a senior research fellow at the Center for Economic Studies at the U.S. Census Bureau.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHaltiwanger has played a major role in developing and studying U.S. longitudinal firm-level data and matched employer-employee data. The statistical and measurement methods he has helped develop to measure and study firm and worker dynamics have been used by many statistical agencies around the world.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn 2013, Haltiwanger received the Julius Shiskin Award for economic statistics, and in 2014, he received the Roger Herriot Award for innovation in statistics for his work with statistical agencies. He has published more than 100 academic articles and numerous books, including Job Creation and Destruction (with Steven Davis and Scott Schuh, MIT Press).
