{"589315":{"#nid":"589315","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Georgia Tech Mock Trial Advances to the National Championship Tournament for Second Straight Year","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s Mock Trial (GTMT) \u0026ldquo;A\u0026rdquo; team finished in first place at the Decatur Opening Round Championship Series Tournament, which was held March 17 - 19, 2017 at the DeKalb County Courthouse.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe team finished with an undefeated record of 8-0 and earned a bid to the 33\u003Csup\u003Erd\u003C\/sup\u003E American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) National Championship Tournament, which will be held April 21-23 in Los Angeles.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDuring the tournament, the team defeated mock trial teams from the University of Alabama, Hendrix College, Millsaps College, and the University of South Carolina. In addition to the team\u0026rsquo;s success, graduating seniors Troy Kleber and Sutton Birch won Outstanding Witness Awards at the tournament.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWith this victory at the tournament, GTMT finishes the AMTA \u0026ldquo;regular season\u0026rdquo; with an undefeated record of 16-0. At the National Championship, they seek to improve upon their third place finish at last year\u0026rsquo;s tournament.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EMock Trial activities are situated within the Pre-Law Program in the\u0026nbsp;Ivan Allen College\u0026nbsp;School of Public Policy and overseen by program director Robert Pikowsky.
