Klaenhammer Distinguished Scholar in Probiotics Research at North Carolina State University. His research focuses on the biology and genetics of CRISPR-Cas immune systems in bacteria. He has won several awards for his research the most recent being the 2017 NAS Award in Molecular Biology.
