{"601854":{"#nid":"601854","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Faculty Invited to Create New Study Abroad Programs","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Office of International Education (OIE) is issuing a call for applications from academic faculty members to cultivate the next generation of study abroad faculty leaders and program directors who serve undergraduate and graduate students.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOIE is looking for faculty members its \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/oie2.gatech.edu\/content\/emerging-faculty-leaders-study-abroad-program\u0022\u003EEmerging Faculty Leaders in Study Abroad Program\u003C\/a\u003E. Participants will\u0026nbsp;create faculty-led study abroad programs that will be academically relevant and of interest to Georgia Tech students.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOIE\u0026rsquo;s mission is to foster and provide international opportunities to all Georgia Tech students. To that end, OIE hopes to identify key areas for potential growth by fostering support for a cohort of faculty members who will develop new programs or replace senior faculty as they advance to new projects or retire.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ERather than compete with existing study abroad options, this program seeks to create new opportunities for groups currently underserved, such as:\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EAfrican-American, Hispanic, and other underrepresented student populations.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EGraduate students (outside of the Scheller College of Business).\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EScheller College of Business undergraduate students.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EStudent-athletes.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EPrograms in developing countries and emerging economic markets.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ELocations not currently served by existing faculty-led study abroad programs.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EMembers of the program cohort will receive funding to be used toward conference participation and program planning. Faculty participants will also receive mentorship from a current faculty-led study abroad program director. Those selected for the program cohort will need approval from their academic unit, should anticipate dedicating five to 10 hours of work per month, and commit to submitting a faculty-led study abroad program proposal for the 2018-19 academic year.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EApplications for the program are now open and will be accepted through Wednesday, Feb. 28.
