{"604212":{"#nid":"604212","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Georgia Tech, Honeywell Hometown Solutions to Help Teachers Strengthen STEM Lessons","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EMiddle and high school teachers will have a new program to help them teach computer science and engineering skills to students.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ceismc.gatech.edu\/community\/stlp\u0022\u003ESTEM Teacher Leadership Program at Georgia Tech\u003C\/a\u003E will create a professional network of teachers from metro Atlanta to serve as instructional leaders to strengthen students\u0026rsquo; learning experience in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe program, which was announced Wednesday, is a joint effort of the Institute and Honeywell Hometown Solutions, the company\u0026rsquo;s corporate citizenship initiative.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EParticipating school districts include Atlanta Public Schools and the school systems of Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EKey components of the two-year program include:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EFour weeks of intensive summer training in software engineering and computing with 25 selected teachers. Teachers will have access to Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s computing research and Honeywell engineers, who will serve as mentors and coaches.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EThe Honeywell STEM Challenge, a software engineering competition open to students of teachers who participate in the STEM Teacher Leadership Program. Students will work in teams to solve real-world challenges using software coding and computation techniques.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EAn annual STEM Teacher Leadership Program Symposium, where alumni and other teachers and leaders from the metro Atlanta area can attend academic and networking activities at Georgia Tech.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe program will be facilitated by Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics and Computing (CEISMC).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;We\u0026rsquo;re pleased to continue our relationship with Honeywell as part of our vision to be among the most highly respected, technology-focused learning institutions in the world,\u0026rdquo; said Rafael L.
