The Suicide and Mental Health Committee of Stamps Health Services Ambassadors will have its first event April 17 and 19 on Tech Walkway.

The Share Your Story event is designed to raise campus awareness of mental health issues by sharing the stories of those who have dealt with these issues. Submissions will be collected online through Thursday, April 5.

At the event, a display board will share the stories, which are submitted anonymously. There will also be a positive thoughts jar where students can draw a thought — written by the event organizers with their fellow students in mind — for a little motivation before heading into finals.

“The goal of the event is to build a sense of community and understanding. We want people to know they are not alone,” said Ann-Marie Sills, a second-year international affairs and modern languages major and chair of the event’s organizing committee. Sills was motivated to head up the committee because of campus events and having friends who struggled with mental health issues.

The Suicide and Mental Health Committee, a group of 14 students, is just one of several groups of the Stamps Health Services Ambassadors. “It’s a very passionate group of people who really want to make a difference,” Sills said.

They plan to have more events next semester, including guest speakers and fundraising events for health and counseling services.
