Meanwhile four previous scholars graduated.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAs the 2018-19 school year begins, the Leddy Family Scholarship Fund will be supporting nine students majoring in the College of Sciences.\u0026nbsp;Before the end of\u0026nbsp;the Fall 2018 semester, the College will name another four scholars.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Leddy Family Scholarship Fund supports awards to undergraduates in the College of Sciences. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement. Scholars are expected to continue participation in experiential educational programs such as research, study abroad, service learning, outreach activities, or campus leadership.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe fund is made possible by a generous donation by the family of School of Physics alumnus \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cos.gatech.edu\/jeffrey-leddy\u0022\u003EJeffrey Leddy\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe latest additions to the Leddy Family Scholars\u0026rsquo; roster are Quazi Ziyan Ahmed, Gabriel Bonilla, Mariel Barnett, and Madison Elizabeth Luker.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ENew Scholars\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EQuazi Ziyan Ahmed,\u003C\/strong\u003E from Snellville, Georgia, is studying for a B.S. in Mathematics, as well as a Certificate in Finance. His career goal is to work in the financial industry. For now, he is the marketing manager of the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/studentcenter.gatech.edu\/tech-rec\u0022\u003EStudent Center Tech Rec\u003C\/a\u003E. In his spare time, Ahmed enjoys playing basketball, soccer, and cricket. He also loves to cook and travel.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EGabriel Bonilla \u003C\/strong\u003Ehails from Minnesota. He is a biochemistry major in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Before attending Georgia Tech, he worked as a research assistant in the lab of \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/cbs.umn.edu\/contacts\/carrie-m-wilmot\u0022\u003ECarrie Wilmot\u003C\/a\u003E, professor and associate dean for graduate education in the College of Biological Sciences, University of Minnesota.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/englelab.gatech.edu\/undergraduates.html\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EMariel Barnett\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E is a major in the School of Psychology. Even as a first-year student, she volunteered in the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/englelab.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EAttention and Working Memory Lab\u003C\/a\u003E, directed \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/englelab.gatech.edu\/randallengle.html\u0022\u003ERandall Engle\u003C\/a\u003E. She is interested in cognition and child development. After college, she intends to go to graduate school. Luker has extensive experience in working with animals. For example, she has rescued miniature horses from auction and retrained them for therapy work. In 2018, she marched with the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.dailynews.com\/2018\/01\/01\/these-miniature-horses-might-have-stolen-the-show-at-rose-parade-2018\/\u0022\u003Etrained horses in the Rose Bowl Parade\u003C\/a\u003E. During her first year at Tech, she did research with \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/biosci.gatech.edu\/people\/young-chang\u0022\u003EYoung-Hui Chang\u003C\/a\u003E, in the School of Biological Sciences. I am incredibly grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Leddy for their generosity and support.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EMeanwhile, Zott is attending California Institute of Technology to pursue a Ph.D. in chemistry. He wants to specialize in inorganic chemistry. He\u0026rsquo;s exploring research groups developing model systems to study nitrogen reduction as carried out by nitrogenase.
