Blackburn Presents Research at Columbia University

On May 17, School of Economics Ph.D. student Christopher Blackburn presented a paper at the Northeast Workshop on Energy Policy and Environmental Economics at Columbia University. The paper, titled Do Demonstration Projects Work?, was co-authored with Mallory Flowers, alumna of the School of Public Policy, Dan Matisoff, Associate Professor in the School of Public Policy, and Juan Moreno-Cruz, Associate Professor in the School of Economics.

In the paper, the authors study the effectiveness of pilot and demonstration projects in increasing the adoption of sustainable building technologies in real estate markets. Using data on pilot projects and adoption of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building standard, the study results show that pilot projects contribute to a 12% increase in the adoption of sustainable building technologies in regions located near the pilot project.
