{"60735":{"#nid":"60735","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Brown Appointed Review Editor for Climate Change Panel","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ESchool of Public Policy Professor Marilyn Brown has been appointed a review editor for submissions to the influential in Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). \u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EMarilyn Brown will serve as a review editor for Working Group III of the next (5th) Assessment Report (AR5) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), handling Chapter 9 on \u201cBuildings\u201d.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EConsidered a leading authority on climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is a scientific body that evaluates the risk of climate change caused by human activity. The panel was established in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), two organizations of the United Nations. The IPCC shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former Vice President Al Gore.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EAs a review editor Brown will evaluate submissions from scientists contributing to the IPCC, ensuring the that all expert and government review comments are afforded appropriate consideration.  She will also advise lead authors on how to handle controversial issues and to ensure that genuine controversies are reflected adequately in the text of the report.  The report will be part of the IPCC\u0027s AR5 special report on topics relevant to the implementation of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), an international treaty that acknowledges the possibility of harmful climate change. \n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EDr. Brown\u0027s recent service to Federal Agencies includes participation on DOE review committees and the National Academies\u0027 Board on Energy and Environmental Systems.
