The Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking and the Georgia Tech Libraries present Fast Film Fest, a paper animation festival & competition.

Blending the tactile with the visual, the inaugural Fast Film Fest is coming soon. Using paper as the basis of animations, participants will create a "fast film"- created, filmed, and edited in a two week period between October 24 and November 7, 2018. Share your creativity with campus and learn a fun technique to express yourself! Winning submissions are eligible for prizes, and will be announced at an award ceremony on Wednesday, November 14. Submissions will be judged by Fatima Abdullah (Executive Producer, Primal Screen), Matt and Mike Chapman (Creators, Homestar Runner and Two More Eggs), Jon Dillings (Creative Lead, Turner Studios/Cartoon Network), and Alison Valk (Multimedia Librarian, Georgia Tech)

"The museum is really excited to partner with the Georgia Tech Libraries on this project. Paper is such a versatile material with a long history, and people at Georgia Tech are always exploring new, cutting edge, innovations. This film festival is a great way to combine these two topics in a fun way," says Jerushia Graham, Museum Coordinator and festival organizer. "You don't have to be an expert filmmaker or have specialized equipment to make your movie. You can be as low-tech as a cell phone and a sticky-note! We're really excited about the many directions filmmakers can take."

To kick-off the Festival, Dr. Patrick Ellis will lead a screening and talk on the history of paper animation on Friday, October 12 at 6pm. The talk is free and open to the public. Dr. Ellis is a Brittain Fellow at Georgia Tech and film history is one of his areas of specialty. He has a PhD in film and media from the University of California, Berkeley. 

The museum and libraries will offer a series of free workshops on stop-motion and paper animation techniques between October 10-24. Participation in the workshops is optional for contest participants. A full list of workshops is included below.
