{"611846":{"#nid":"611846","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Atlanta Awarded the American Cities Climate Challenge","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EFormer New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced that Atlanta and Seattle will be awarded for the Bloomberg American Cities Climate Challenge.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBloomberg praised the both cities for their commitment to reducing air pollution and city-wide emissions creating programs aimed reforming their respective transit and building sectors.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBloomberg praised both Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkin and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms for their commitment to ambitious climate action and securing a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment and economy for their citizens.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESchool of Public Policy Regents and Brook Byers Professor of Sustainable Systems Dr. Marilyn Brown says, \u0026ldquo;Atlanta\u0026#39;s Better Building Challenge, Energy Benchmarking, and 100% Clean Energy goals were among the many initiatives hailed as evidence of the city\u0026#39;s leadership in climate readiness and mitigation. With the new funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies, Atlanta will continue to launch innovative pilot projects and policies, and I\u0026#39;m hopeful that some of these will engage Georgia Tech students and faculty.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe winners of the Bloomberg American Cities Climate Challenge will be accepted into a two-year acceleration program with access to new resources and cutting-edge support that will help them meet or beat their near-term carbon reduction goals.
