  <title><![CDATA[Georgia Tech Receives the INSIGHT Into Diversity HEED Award for Fifth Consecutive Year]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>For the fifth consecutive year, <em>INSIGHT Into Diversity </em>has given the 2018 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award to Georgia Tech in recognition of its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. &nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are honored,&rdquo; said Archie Ervin, vice president for Institute Diversity and president of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education. &ldquo;On the heels of a challenging year for our campus community, we remain steadfast in our commitment to an inclusive, safe, and healthy community on our path forward together as &lsquo;One Georgia Tech.&rsquo;&rdquo;</p>

<p>Open to all colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada, the award measures an institution&rsquo;s level of achievement and intensity of commitment in regard to broadening diversity and inclusion on campus through initiatives, programs, and outreach; student recruitment, retention, and completion; and hiring practices for faculty and staff.</p>

<p>Award applications are reviewed and evaluated by representatives of Potomac Publishing Inc., publisher of <em>INSIGHT Into Diversity, </em>and the magazine&rsquo;s editorial board members may have also been asked to assist with evaluating applications.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Georgia Tech&rsquo;s HEED Award application received our highest score to date,&rdquo; said Keona Lewis, program review and research manager for Institute Diversity<em>.</em> &ldquo;While we are grateful for the recognition, there is still work to do as evidenced by our recently released report from the 2017 Faculty and Staff Climate Assessment Surveys.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Ninety-six higher education institutions, including Georgia Tech, received the HEED Award this year. They will be featured in the November 2018 and December 2018 issues of <em>INSIGHT Into Diversity</em>.</p>
