Meet Jackson Caruso – B.S. Public Policy, International Affairs Minor, Class of 2022

Hometown – Elberton, Georgia

Why did you choose to study public policy at Tech?

For me, what stands out most about Georgia Tech's public policy major is that it takes a true interdisciplinary approach – including political, economic, and social disciplines – and integrates them with skills that will allow me to identify problems and offer solutions. My goal in life is to help others help themselves, and I believe that I can do so most effectively through studying public policy.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to pursue the B.S./M.S. program in public policy while studying at Georgia Tech. After completing that, I hope to go to law school and work for either the Justice Department or State Department.

How have you been able to use your knowledge outside of classes?

I'm currently a policy intern at the Atlanta Board of Education where I work alongside board members conducting research, collecting data, and writing new policy for Atlanta Public Schools. Having an internship during my first fall semester at Tech is an amazing opportunity, and I believe it shows that at Georgia Tech you can take advantage of such amazing opportunities from day one.

What organizations have you been involved with on campus?

On campus, my main involvement is Georgia Tech's Student Government Association (SGA). I am a first-year representative in SGA's Undergraduate House of Representatives, and I serve on both the Curriculum and Institute Policies and Government Relations executive committees. I am also involved with FreShGA, a first-year leadership organization, as well as a mentor in Tech the Halls and a member of both the iGniTe Summer Session Advisory Board and the Student Alumni Association.
