If this continues, there are many dire projections of climate change that imply\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\na dark future world. This talk examines whether adaptation lightens this future. We\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nlook at agriculture and sea level rise and show that although adaptation cannot fully\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nprevent future climate damage, the human race will endure. There is a policy solution to\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nclimate change.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cstrong\u003EMore about Robert Mendelsohn:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nProfessor Mendelsohn has written over one hundred peer-reviewed articles and\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nedited six books. The focus of his research has been the valuation of the environment.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nHe has developed methods to value natural ecosystems including coral reefs, oldgrowth\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nforests, non-timber forest products, ecotourism, and outdoor recreation. He has\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nalso developed methods to value pollution including emissions of criteria pollutants\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n(such as particulates and sulfur dioxide) and hazardous waste sites. His most recent\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nwork values the impacts of greenhouse gases, including the effects of climate change on\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nagriculture, forests, water resources, energy, and coasts. This research carefully integrates adaptation into impact assessment and has recently been extended to developing countries around the world.
