{"615198":{"#nid":"615198","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Lauren Klein Receives NEH-Mellon Fellowship for Digital Publication ","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ELauren Klein, an associate professor in the Georgia Institute of Technology \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.lmc.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Literature, Media, and Communication\u003C\/a\u003E has received \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.neh.gov\/grants\/research\/neh-mellon-fellowships-digital-publication\u0022\u003Ethe National Endowment for the Humanities-Mellon Fellowship for Digital Publication.\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAs a fellow, Klein is awarded a monthly stipend that supports the ongoing work behind her project,\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/lklein.com\/data-by-design\/\u0022\u003E\u003Cem\u003EData by Design: An Interactive History of Data Visualization, 1786-1900.\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThis project\u0026nbsp;traces the rise of modern data visualization techniques through five \u0026ldquo;data narratives,\u0026rdquo; which are\u0026nbsp;chapter-length web-based texts that employ interactive visualizations in order to advance their claims.\u0026nbsp;Overall, the project\u0026rsquo;s purpose is to\u0026nbsp;challenge\u0026nbsp;the commonly-held belief that visualization serves as a neutral method for the display of data.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe fellowship is a joint effort between\u0026nbsp;the National Endowment for the Humanities and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support individual scholars pursuing interpretive research projects that require digital expression and digital publication.
