{"615604":{"#nid":"615604","#data":{"type":"event","title":"Controversial Topics in Contentious Times: Teaching the Humanities \u0026 Social Sciences at Georgia Tech","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAs faculty members in the Ivan\u0026nbsp;Allen College, we frequently\u0026nbsp;address topics in the classroom that\u0026nbsp;are controversial\u0026nbsp;and even contentious.\u0026nbsp; While students can benefit from engaging in controversial topics there\u0026nbsp;are\u0026nbsp;also many risks\u0026nbsp;and potential\u0026nbsp;pitfalls in these pedagogical\u0026nbsp;situations.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;While so much of our research\u0026nbsp;and teaching involves engaging with difficult questions\u0026nbsp;and topics,\u0026nbsp;we don\u0026rsquo;t\u0026nbsp;always have opportunities to discuss these experiences\u0026nbsp;and how to manage them.\u0026nbsp;This roundtable workshop is designed\u0026nbsp;to open up dialogues\u0026nbsp;about teaching controversial topics in our current moment.
