{"618317":{"#nid":"618317","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Peer Coaching Welcoming New Coaches","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.counseling.gatech.edu\/content\/peer-coaching\u0022\u003EPeer Coaching Program\u003C\/a\u003E offers an innovative way for Georgia Tech students to access support. Applications are now open for students who want to get involved.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIt can be difficult for students to ask for help, and some may see it as stigmatizing or unnecessary to seek professional mental health services. This is why the Peer Coaching Program trains students to provide one-on-one support services to their peers and offers Peer Coaches ongoing supervision in the provision of these paraprofessional services. Peer Coaches are trained to help their consultees identify and address academic, social, or other concerns commonly faced by college students, including but not limited to:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EAdjustment to college\/Tech.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EAcademic struggles.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EStress and anxiety.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ERelationship concerns.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ECareer\/major uncertainty.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EGrief and loss.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETo become coaches, students must demonstrate qualities and characteristics such as strong leadership and social skills, good judgment, initiative, follow-through, and commitment. They must also successfully complete a comprehensive application process that includes a self-reflection essay and two recommendations from former supervisors, faculty, or staff.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EApplications for Fall 2019 are currently open, and the deadline is April 5. The program is open to both undergraduate and graduate student applicants.
