Symposium on Simulation in Architecture and Urban Design (SimAUD 2019)

SimAUD is an international conference that offers a platform that unites both researchers and practitioners in the fields of architecture, urban design, urban planning, building science, data science and beyond. This year it is hosted at Georgia Tech, featuring 40 single-track peer-reviewed long and short-papers, practice-focused panels, 8 half-day, pre-conference workshops, and four keynote addresses.

Below is the description of the keynotes that you can attend for free in the Reinsch-Pierce Family Auditorium at the Georgia Tech College of Design, professional workshops that you can register for half a day for a small registration fee, and a link to the conference program, which requires full registration.

To attend the full program (including social events and 1 workshop), please visit the registration page for more details.

PUBLIC KEYNOTES
CYBER-PHYSICAL SYSTEMS AND OPEN DATA PLATFORMS
Dennis Shelden
Georgia Tech
Sunday, April 7
05:45 PM – 06:45 PM
Reinsch-Pierce Family Auditorium
This presentation will focus on specific technical, organizational and cultural advances supporting the expansion of the AEC agenda into the design, delivery and operation of intelligent building systems and environments.

THE FUTURE OF THERMAL COMFORT IN A WARMING CLIMATE
Stefano Schiavon
University of California Berkeley
Monday, April 8
04:45 PM – 05:45 PM
Reinsch-Pierce Family Auditorium
This talk will show that we are still systematically measuring high thermal dissatisfaction, even in green and high performance buildings, and answer the question: how can we enhance occupant satisfaction without increasing our environmental impact?

WAIT, WHAT?
Billie Faircloth
KieranTimberlake
Tuesday, April 8
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Reinsch-Pierce Family Auditorium
This talk will dissect examples of KieranTimberlake’s models and share insights from ten years of pursuing a transdisciplinary modeling practice.

SHAPE MATTERS
Dana Cupkova
Carnegie Mellon University
Tuesday, April 8
05:45 PM – 06:45 PM
Reinsch-Pierce Family Auditorium
Operating under the premise that complex geometries can be used to improve both the aesthetic and thermodynamic performance of passive heating and cooling systems, this talk will focus on the role of form in architecture to propose design strategies related to energy usage.

WORKSHOPS

SimAUD 2019 workshops will take place on Sunday, April 07 at 8:30 to 11:30 AM. The workshops will address the topic of simulation from a unique perspective and will offer hands-on learning opportunities on cutting edge computational approaches, workflows and tools. The workshops can be attended both by registered conference attendees and by anyone else interested. In both cases, a registration to a workshop is required. No workshop fee applies to registered conference attendees.

A small fee applies to others participants (full fee: $50 – student fee: $20), for which there is no refund in case of cancellation after April 1st. To register to the entire conference event, including workshops, please visithttps://tinyurl.com/y6fpkut4.
